for everyone

Its scammer season once again.

I've heard of people getting called/texted about winning three phones in some promo that doesn't exist.

Today, I got a call from Prudential Life saying I won 3 scholarships worth P75k each from them because I was "referred" by someone. I was immediately suspicious. I don't even know anyone from Prudential Life, nor do I believe in things like this. It just sounded too fishy. The girl told me all I needed to do was to go to the 2nd floor of the Goodwill building, 393 Gil Puyat ave and to look for Twinkle Soriano. Voucher # aug813 and present 3 I.D. cards and a credit card. C'mon. I'm not an idiot. I smell a scam. True enough, I googled it, and found out that some people have already been complaining (see below).

If you know anyone from Prudential Life - please let this get to them. It's so pathetic and to victimize unknowing people into buying insurance or whatever else package they want to sell this way is wrong.

Just to warn you, again, of this dubious offer from Prudential Life in Makati, they'll just ask you if you have a credit card and offer you insurance. I blogged about Prudential life Scam before so be forewarned. You'll just waste your time commuting to Makati and braving the horrendous traffic to be tricked by people who don't care as long they can sell something.

The Prudential Life: Selling Insurance Shameless Way

This is a pathetic and unscrupulous attempt of some group on trying to sell you insurance by Prudential Life, not sure if officially sanctioned by Prudential Life
but the way they trick people in coming to their office is something that should never be done by normal people.

I'm publishing this as another friend of mine asked me if this modus operandi that she won something and must come to the same office (my friends know of the kind of work I do that's why they consult me about things like this)

You people behind this trick should be ashamed of yourselves.

I sent an email inquiry to the helpdesk of Prudential Life but fell on deaf ears and got no reply...I wonder why

to all readers, beware and spread the word!
the shenanigans behind this act use Social Engineering by declaring to come to their office and file within 24 hours plus the dubious and absurd requirement of presenting credit card as identification.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
we received a call informing us that we still file for a claim on a dead brother's Prudential lifeinsurance.
our brother died in an accident several months ago.
this was a surprise as earlier inquiries told us that the policy had lapsed.
the caller said that:
- the claim must be filed within 24 hours;
- any relative may file the claim but must have valid IDs (company ID, sss ID, any CREDITCARD);
- we must proceed to Prudential Life's RELEASING OFFICE at the 6/F RCI Bldg, Rada St., Legaspi Vill., Makati
at the supposedly RELEASING OFFICE, although the glass doors and wall had the the Prudential Life name/logo, the room didn't feel right:
- there was only a single office table with several chairs, a sofa and some side tables and a tv (several young men/yuppies were watching tv);
- the carpeting was dismal;
- very prominent was a stack of large gift-wrapped boxes (maalala mo talaga yung 'family first')
we became really suspicious and finally withdrew when, despite our insistence that we were there to file for a claim:
- they did not ask for any detail about the policy holder (not even the name);
- instead they filled out a green Prudential Life Personal Information Sheet with my info.
- they insisted on requiring that we present at least one CREDIT CARD for verification of our identity.
we were lucky to get out unscathed (we never presented a credit card, got back my IDs and the information sheet before leaving) pero ang masakit, namatayan na nga kami ay naisipan pa nilang gawin yun - sana multohin sila ng kapatid ko!
my sister just received a text it says:
"Goodnews! As part of Prudential Market Resource Corporation agency initiated sales promotion, you have been chosen (Name of my sister) to receive a free datamex scholarship from our goodwill Buendia Branch Office. For more info on how to claim said items pls call 7516837 up to 38 or 8904878 within 24 hrs upon receipt of this message and look for mr. JP Rivera. We are available to receive your call from 10-6pm. Thank you"
Good thing my sister told me about it, she said she called the said numbers ang sabi magdala daw ng 3 id's at credit cards as requirement para maclaim ang scholarship. I googled things up, ang Prudential Market Resource Corporation wala ako makita so I concluded na Such firm does'nt exist cguro nmn kng meron ngang ganung company eh nmn cguro cla ganun kacheap para mwalan ng kahit na pipitsuging website man lng, kaso nga wala tlga ako mkita,
may ibinigay ding pangalan na kelangn daw dun makipag usap kpag ikiclaim ung scholarship, si Twinkle Soriano daw. I also googled the code na bnigay nila sa sis ko, which is AUG813, and it led me here, goodthing may mga ganitong threads and forums na nakakapag bigay ng mahahalagang infos katulad ng topic dito.
Thank you naliwanagan ako at pati sis ko mapapaliwanagan ko. tnx tnx tnx.....
Thanks for this... really appreciate it! By the way has anyone really claimed the said "prizes"? What is it? I actually texted back and told them that I will NOT claim the scholarship. I added that I learned about the scam and that they should not call me again. I told them that I will report them so that they will be exposed. A few minutes I received a call in my landline from their "legal department." The guy starts going... "do you know prudential life?" Haha! Here's the funny part, he says something like... "I tell you Sir, if ever you do meet Mr. Tulfo. Tell him we're working here." Haha! I never said anything about Mr. Tulfo!!! Haha! Siguro ang dami ng nagre reklamo na nalilito na sya...
Hi sis, I actually went to their office to claim the said scholarship. It has been three weeks since they been calling me na I won nga and ung mother-in-law ko ang kinukulit nila. So ako ung kinukulit nung mother-in-law ko kaya I've decided to visit their office. What I've presented is 2 ID cards and a closed account credit card. A certain guy assisted me and I told him not to offer me anything as I will not buy anything from them. I just asked what's the catch of this and he told me that they have tied-up with Datamex and instead of advertising, they decided to offer the company through referrals though hindi nila sasabihin kung sino ang nag-refer sa iyo. So I went home bringing the scholarship certificate - I've inquired na with Datamex and they are accepting that certificate from Prudentialife, though tuition fee lang ang free. You still have to pay for miscellaneous fee.
I guess its up to you if you will be persuaded with their sweet talk and ended up with getting the insurance from them. Its a good thing probably na ung tumatawag sa kin eh nag-half day kaya iba ung nag-assists sa kin. Nothing to lose, I am still thinking now to whom do I give the scholarship.
I also got a call from Prudential Life, they are having their anniversary and I am to receive a free educational scholarship from them. Same thing, I need to bring 3 IDs, one of which is a bank identification, the funny thing is, they won't accept a bank debit card only credit cards. I also received a call from Cocolife a few months back, also requires me to claim the certificate and bring 3 IDs including a credit card. These situations do smell FISHY!
With all due respect. It's not a scam I also received the same sms and dropped by their Rada office. They gave me two education coupons for Datamex with no strings attached. They asked me for a credit card which is necessary if you want to apply for the credit card that they're offering. I just said no. I called Datamex to check the validity coupons, and they confirmed that it can be used to pay the tuition fee of any of their 2 year courses but will mot cover miscellaneous fees. I hope thIS help clear things out. I repeat, IT'S NOT A SCAM !!!!
so as of yesterday, Prudential Life has taken the same road as Legacy. i grieve for all those who were lured for subscribing to their policies.
joannacebu wrote on Apr 22, '09
Ok then, it is not a scam. But then it would sometimes depend on who you are dealing with, because there had been people who had their credit card used swiped and therefore charged, without being honestly told about the transaction. My question though is this, why do they insist on a credit card being the third proof of identification, why not ask for even three government issued IDs (like, passport, driver's license, PRC license, SSS / GSIS card)?
nessykoh17 wrote on Apr 25, '09
Share ko lang po, i once worked in prudential makati branch way back 2 yrs ago but after a week i quit because i really felt that i was fooling people through phone (actually sa Telephone Directory lang nakuha ang mga Numbers nyo, just so you all guys know) and its really not true that you won a certificate, its their strategy of selling insurances. about the credit card thing, its for them to know if you are capable of paying their insurance which is in he long run mapupunta lang sa wala. i think the money of the insurance holders eh napunta lang sa mga empleyado ng prudential kse ung su-sweldohin ng mga empleyado is malaki tlga, naidiscuss din kc yung compensation ng mga recruiters nung nagseminar ako. nakakalungkot isipin. actually ngayon tinanggalan na cla ng lisensya to operate. kawawa yung mga insurance holders...parang na-estafa un money nila.
w8lftr wrote on Apr 26, '09
in business, you don't get something out of nothing. you still have to enroll with datamex in order to get a FREE benefit kuno. what will keep Datamex from adding up insane miscellaneous fees to offset their effort?
It was happened yesterday afternoon at the Megamall. I didn't receive any of their text but na-encourage ako sa "promo" daw nila within the mall. In the end, they just offered plans, plans, plans. Nainis na ako kasi gusto ko nang magback-out pero kahit sa restroom eh inabangan nila ako. Hindi nila ako nabili sa kanilang mahaba at mabulaklaking paliwanag. I know there was an problem/issue about them. They wasted my time so I gave them a dose of their own medicine. Fake lahat ang binigay kong information except my real name. In the end, nakareceived ako tumbler! ;)
And then may nkausap ako na kylangan daw magpunta sa ofis nla on or b4 Nov. 18-21, 2009.. I was actually got interested kc nga free.. But then when I asked if what are the requirements pra mclaim ko, she said, kylangan daw mgpresent ng any government issued ID's and a bank identification which she said like credit card. Napaisip ako bkit kylangan ng credit card. So sabi ko cge I'll try to visit their ofis for the said certificate kc nga malapit lng d2 sa ofis nmin sa makati. But I have this feeling na parang something's wrong so I googled it immediately, and there you go a lot of blogs about this kind of SCAM! Then tumawag ulit sakin ung nagpadala ng txt message, and then sabi ko di ko sure kung mkiclaim ko pa, sabi nya bkit nman po? sabi ko, madami akong gngawa kya di ko sure mkapunta sa ofis nla and then all of the sudden binagsakan ako ng phone! hahahaha! Buti nlng ngkaron ako ng idea about sa mga SCAMS na gnito.
i guess free scholarship from datamex is not good. because here in bacoor cavite, DATAMEX school is 100% free tuition fee. Even you don't get any scholarship from a company.
shoponlineisrael wrote on Jun 4, '10
elow emdei, i think di nmn xa scam because it is a strong insurance company as others said to me. Nagkataon lang na nagiging scam sila dahil sa mga unwanted text messages at kung ano anong pakulo, since there are people na hndi pa afford ang bumili ng insurance so they just ignore them. But if you will think for the future, u have to think on it. May time table nmn ang pagkuha nila ng pera sayo so after finishing this monthly payment kung hndi ka tiwala claim ur deposits. And end up with them.
cianee wrote on Jun 5, '10
Yes. I just inquired from my credit card office. If they were able to get your expiry date and last 4 digits, they can use it for on line transaction. I encountered same experience. I am also worried about my card. better you inquire from your card office too.
I was with my parents at SM Cebu when we were approached by an employee from PPLIC--Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Company Inc. in order to get a freebie. We proceeded to their office at the 2nd floor across LTO. By the way, I'm just 22 y.o. We weren't sure if it was a scam though. They said that there's a chance that you can win a Honda City Car or $10000. Of course, it made me think as well, may nagbibigay pa ba ng freebies sa panahon ngayon na walang kapalit in return?? They were asking if we have a credit card, ATM card and we said yes.
Honestly, their SAVINGS endowment was pretty convincing. I was with my parents then when I listened to what they called "a 45-minute" discussion or briefing about the product. And before we even went to the 2nd floor, they said several things or points: 1) NA HINDI KAMI PINILIT NA MGBAYAD OR ANYTHING TO GET A FREEBIE 2) NO PRESSURE 3) THIS WILL JUST HELP US PARA MKILALA UNG COMPANY COZ THEY'RE NEW HERE SA SM--I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY MEANT, BAKA BAGONG LIPAT! 4) THIS PROMO IS ONLY FOR TODAY!!!--MEANING IF YOU SAY NO, NO MORE CHANCE NA TO AVAIL THIS AGAIN AT ANOTHER TIME!--these are the things that so far I remembered.
We were having a lot of queries and our presentor at that time tried to explain things for us when all of a sudden, his supervisor interrupted us in the middle of our conversation. She then tried to explain some things which were already explained earlier by the guy. She asked " IF THERE'S A PROBLEM, WE REPLIED NO!" That's why nagtaka kami why sumingit xa!
To make the long story short, our presentor's supervisor kept on insisting that we'd avail of that promo since today lang nga daw! We said that it's not hindi nmin kaya, it's just that we have other priorities na pg.gagamitan sa money so we said "NO, WE'RE NOT INTERESTED AND BESIDES IT'S NOT THAT MUCH OF A BIG LOSS SA AMIN!" The sup even tried to lower the initial amount again para daw makaya nmin. In the first place, we asked nga walang pressure diba, why ipilit pa? The sup was very insulting with how she said it, sabi ba nman na: "Nagtanong nga ako kanina eh. You can just say yes or no. And sabi rin nmang WE'RE NOT AFTER YOUR MONEY!" Sa isip ko: "Ikaw pang may ganang mgalit na ikaw lang nga ang sumingit sa amin eh! And if they weren't after our money, then why keep on pressuring us na mg.avail?? Kayang kaya namin but we're just thinking of other priorities nga lang as of now and kahit pang sabihin mo na pang.extra2 lang naman po itong savings endowment that they're offering, still the money that we need to pay for that initial amount na hinihingi nila will still come out of our savings! Nagsabi na nga kami ng NO, pinipilit pa rin! And my parents are the type na don't want to be pressured when it comes to making a decision right there and then (exception to emergencies) especially when it involves doling out of money or investing into a business propsal--of course that needs a lot of time para pg.isipan.
To EMDEI: If you'll try to read this, I also put in here na I'm not sure if this is a scam. I know that there's a Prudential Life Insurance Company talaga but in our case nung sa SM CEBU, why not tell us about the insurance or about the savings endowment right away?? Sa kanila kc, dadaanin ka pa ng freebie at iced tea. Un pla, if you're not interested, they'll give you that look or they'll pressure you talaga to decide right there and then.
just to clarify... the prudential life insurance is different from Philippine Prudential. Ito ang sabi saakin ng nag text saakin na guy from Philippine Prudential. Kaya ko clinarify sa kanya kung pareho ba ang Prudential Life sa Philippine Prudential ay dahil ako rin, I used to be a scholar of Prudential Life. So, this merely means, that the said companies who apparently have almost the same name are two different entities... Dont worry... Prudential Life (the company where we got our scholarship) is different from the apparently Philippine Prudential (also known as Danvil/ Family First)...
I haven't investigated this matter thoroughly yet, but from what I've read in some comments it would seem as though this Philippine Prudential privilege offered by one Mr. Louie Aguilar (w/c I also received in my Sun Broadband Inbox Messages on Dec. 06, 2010) is a sham. If it's true, then I will now tell you guys what each of us must do and what I Will In Fact Do; that is to cooperate with authorities concerned with such issues. For Example: Report your experiences to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Anti-Money Laundering Branch and to other accountable parties like Police Intelligence and so forth. I would also recommend that we inform the Mainstream Media(GMA; ABS-CBN). For the love of goodness, let us all act on this TENACIOUSLY. I thank and admire you all for sharing your stories, but please don't stop there. May the Lord God bless all your efforts and you as well.
di nman po scam ang Philippine Prudential Life.. Nag panic din ako ng nabasa ko ito ksi isa din ako sa bumili ng policy nila .. buti n lng ung friend ko napagkwentohan ko about this blog na scam ang PPIC.kumuha din siya dito dati, nakumuha naman nya ung pera nya after 10 years worth 300K.
Nakaka inis lng ksi sa company ito masyadong bolero ang mga tao and medyo may problema nga ang pag alok nila ng insurance nila... Sa bagay ang pilipino ksi di sanay pa sa mga ganitong insurance thing kaya siguro ganun ang marketing nila.. which is negative sa customers..
Kung sino man ang nakabili dyan ng policy ng PPIC within 15 days may chance pa kayo icancel ang policy kso nga may process talagang gagawin, medyo matagal bago mabawi ang pera pero mababawi naman ang pera..hmm 1 month ang process .
pero kung lampas ng 15 days di nyo na makukuha ang pera nyo buo..
LICENSE insurance company naman sila.. check nyo po ang Insurance Commission.
>> curious enough i called the Hotline number and looked for Louie Auilar but the man on the line said that he will be speaking for him. So i asked him, "How do i get in the promo?" he said that someone maybe family or friend referred my name and number to get into the promo, and then he asked my number and name to check on their side, and so i give.. and in a matter of second (about 5 sec) he confirmed that i was legitimate to claim the PRICE. He then explain the PRICES: 1. Insurance Plan 2. Education Plan and 3. Raflle Promo of which the chances of winning is high because there were only 30 Recipients who respond.... and as a follow up he said that i should bring a Company ID, SSS or Credit card to validate (but i said i haven't any Credit Card) he was insisting that the Price are FREE and i will not pay for any
>> after the conversation.. i thought of the following:
First, my mother was not a Prudential Life member so there's no way that my name would be referred.
Second, my mobile number was new so how can my number be referred??? ( it was just about two months old - Line from SUN cellular )
so i was convinced that this is certainly a SCAM...
Luckily i read the blogs regarding this PRUDENTIAL LIFE SCAM and my conclusion of it as a SCAM is confirmed. So i texted the number and said "SCAM isnt it? Pahuli ko kaya kayo", i called the number 09234199400 but no one answers....
BEWARE guys!!
Just received a call like this a few mins ago. And they were looking for my brother who is abroad. Referral nga daw and 101% walang bayad. At first it sounded very promising, tapos 3 categories of ID nga daw, company id, government id and "bank ID". The moment i heard about the bank ID, i knew it was a scam. What made it worse, eh madaling madali sila na iclaim ko na daw agad, kung pwede daw mamayang hapon or bukas. Typical scam, na gustong madaliin yung client para impulsive behavior ang umiral at nang hindi na makapag google pa. Then sabi ko next week na lang siguro ako pupunta. Tapos nung tinanong ko kung hanggang kailan ang claiming, biglang hanggang next week lang daw, after nun forfeited na daw.
10 years anniversary na daw nila kaya they are giving away a life insurance until I am 65 for free, raffle entry for PHP50,000 tapos yun nga, Datamex scholarship. And their office is in Bacoor, tapat ng SM Bacoor, Tirona Hi Way, dun sa kakatayo lang na building. I wonder if alam ni Mayor Strike Revilla na ang nagoocupy sa bagong tayong establishment sa Bacoor ay scammer.
Too bad lang kasi kung mga uninformed na matatanda tulad ng mga 50 and above ang matatawagan nila, at ganun ang time frame ng "claiming" maloloko talaga yung mga tao. Nakakatulog pa ba sila sa gabi?!
Prudential just called me today, telling me I won a life insurance that is free until I'm 65, datamex scholarship that is transferable and no expiry and raffle coupons that can make me richer by 50k. At first, I thought its legit because I have an existing insurance with Prudential so I assumed that's were they got my name and home number but when Jason Espinol told me to bring 3 valid IDs including a credit card, I smelled something fishy. The office is across SM Bacoor, @ the New City Hub bldg, 3rd floor. Be wary.
SCANNED DOCUMENTS REGARDING THIS TRANSACTION WILL BE POSTED IN THE COMING DAYS HERE.
Hi, I’m from Davao and last week a woman named MELDRID called and told that I have free certificates that can be used to pay for laboratories, medicines etc. and said I would need to go to Phil Prudential Life Office located at PRYCE TOWER 6TH FLOOR and 3 Id’s to get it.
So I went there and they assessed my requirement which i gave them, 2 IDs and a credit card (I carried it that time). Then they said that I can avail of the ANNIVERSARY PROMO that they had & I was given around 15 coupons for a chance to win P50, 000 that I would fill-up & drop in the promo box.
I was really interested and an agent offered me to proceed to the room where she would explain the "mechanics"
Before the conversation began, she asked me to fill up a form that asks what are my goals. After filling it up we talked.(summarized transaction)
agent1: so your goals involve looking for a job and having a family
me: yes
agent1: but those things are uncertain, death is uncertain, you must be secured so that the family you hope will be secured
me: but I have no family yet, I need money to feed myself first
agent1: the money you will save is small and won’t affect your current budget for expenses. What do you like it to be: P50 a day or P1000 a day.
me: ok, lets try P50, how will the computation go.
agent1: goes to computer and submits a schedule of payments, premiums etc.
me: P5,000 per 3 months is way too much for me since I have barely enough money to sustain myself. I will have to allocate some of my budget for my food, water, utilities etc. to pay this policy.
agent: there is another way for you to avail this buy not using cash but instead your credit card.
me: I will really have to think about this because I primarily use my card for online purchases for my little business and I wanted to cancel this card due to BDO & Mastercard problems.
agent1: goes to the computer
agent2: (out of nowhere), sir please sign.
me: (now here is where I thought where I would get my "free certificates" and DID NOT READ the paper he gave to me. So I signed the paper and later did I know that it was a WAIVER. A waiver that allows them to deduct from my credit card to pay for the policy.)
agent1: (back on scene); May I borrow your credit card sir?
I was already helpless here because I signed the waiver and this agent quickly went to charge my credit card. She came back quickly giving me my receipt and I signed it.
Feeling helpless since they already deducted from my credit card went on to complete the forms. I was a bit low from this time because I was scammed but I knew I can ask them FORMALLY to cancel my policy with a little research.
I searched the net for days and followed one instruction on how to cancel the policy and get them to refund.
After a couple of days, I went to the office, gave them my cancellation letter and asked for a full refund.
At the office, Agent1 was a little surprised that I came back to the office. I gave them the cancellation letter and asked them to fulfill it. She was a little teary eyed here by then, went to the manager's office and asked for advice.
As a way to blanket the conversation of the manager and agent1, the front desk played a commercial of the firm and set the volume to high. I however, moved closer to the door where the conversation took placed and distracted the front desk by asking for DTI business plates, names etc.
After 3 mins. Agent1 asked me for an "evaluation of my reason" for a bout 30 mins inside the same room which took place before. I quickly said to her that the conversation can took place here and asked for what kind of evaluation. She gallantly explained that the explanation for why to cancel would need to be clarified.
*A clear delaying tactic here and the manager gave this order to the agent. And probably gave her 30 mins to make me undo my decision*
Me: Ok let’s go, your 30 mins starts now.
After an HOUR at the room, all her explanation succumbed to my explanation that I cannot pay for the policy and I would not have enough money to pay for my credit card,food,water, shelter due to this.
She then asked me to proceed to the Manager's office where the FORMAL request of cancellation will be accepted. (This is probably their last choice of convincing me to retract my decision.)
(SUMMARIZED TRANSACTION)
Manager: So your reason is that you cannot pay for this policy.
Me: Yes, that is my reason.
Manager: Let us compute your budget for food etc.
Me: *shaking head* No, I dont want that anymore. I had computed it a couple days a go. I don’t have enough resources to pay that policy. And I wish to TERMINATE the policy.
Manager: We cannot terminate your policy, only after a year of payment.
Me: *shows printed copy of Pre-need Act of the Philippines* But it says here that I can cancel my insurance whenever I want. And I have not read in the policy any mention of TERMINATION nor CANCELLATION. If there is so, please underline it for me sir.
Manager: Oh, so you mean CANCELLATION. We have a different meaning here in the firm regarding TERMINATION and CANCELLATION.
Me: Yes, What I would like to ask of you is the cancellation of my policy and the full refund of my initial deposit.
Had a long discussion here regarding mismatch of savings and expenditures and lengthy explanation of my reasons. But they gave up here at the moment.
Manager: I understand sir. Please give us 30-45 days to submit this to the head office and cancel you policy and refund the amount.
Manager left the office, and the agent, a little teary eyed left too. After 5 mins. An employee gave me the cancellation letter copy that was signed by the Manager.
So here I am, waiting for for STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT with printed CANCELLED. And will call them every week to follow-up on the request. They assured me of 30 to 45 days and I am satisfied with that. If however they still did not cancel my policy and refunded the payment, I will surely take legal actions against them and I will give our mayor; MAYOR INDAY SARA DUTERTE a letter regarding the situation.
